Organizational Mission and Structure for the SC HIV Planning Council

Mission Statement

The mission of the South Carolina HIV Planning Council is to develop a comprehensive, statewide HIV Prevention and Care Plan for a responsive, effective, and efficient continuum of services for persons living with HIV/AIDS and those at risk for HIV infection.

DHEC Staff Attending Planning Council Meetings:

1.        State STD/HIV Division Director

2.        State HIV/STD/Viral Hepatitis Prevention Director

3.        State HIV Care and Support Services Director

4.        State ADAP Director

5.        Evaluation Coordinator

6.        Training Coordinator

7.        Other support staff as necessary

Notes

1. Identifying training needs may fall within the scope of the Needs Assessment Committee

2. Youth shall be included in the Prevention Committee

Membership

·         Voting membership is limited to 31 persons.

·         Of the 31 voting members, a minimum of six (6) persons shall be persons living with HIV.  The remaining 25 shall be a balance of prevention and care representatives.

·         Of the 31 members, six (6) shall be Agency- and Ryan White Parts-specific members, including one representative each from the state agencies of Corrections, Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services, Education, and the Ryan White Parts B, C, and D programs.

·         Community Co-chair (elected position; also serves as Membership Committee Chair)

·         DHEC Co-chair (appointed by DHEC)

·         Standing Committee Chairs (4)

Ex Officio Members (2):  State Director of HIV/STD/Viral Hepatitis Prevention, and State Director of HIV Care and Support Services Programs
